Description
The Salton Sea, CA.........The website www.parks.ca.gov says this: One of the world's largest inland seas and lowest spots on earth at -227 below sea level, Salton Sea was re-created in 1905 when high spring flooding on the Colorado River crashed the canal gates leading into the developing Imperial Valley. For the next 18 months the entire volume of the Colorado River rushed downward into the Salton Trough. By the time engineers were finally able to stop the breaching water in 1907, the Salton Sea had been born at 45 miles long and 20 miles wide – equaling about 130 miles of shoreline. Salton Sea State Recreation Area covers 14 miles of the northeastern shore and has long been a popular site for campers, boaters and anglers. Increasing salinity in the Salton Sea basin has limited the number of types of fish that can be found there, and most fish currently caught are Tilapia. Varner Harbor within the SRA provides easy access to the sea for boating and water skiing. Kayakers, campers, birdwatchers, photographers and hikers can enjoy the site's many recreation opportunities.

Beautiful scenic shoreline and moody sky! The feeling of approaching darkness really creates a lot of mood and atmosphere. LF!

So peaceful! Someday I will make it out to California again! It's been about 24 years since I was last out there.
Laurie Search replied:
Thank you very, very much, Elizabeth!! It's truly appreciated!! Ah, it's been quite a while, hasn't it? I hope you make it back someday! So much to see and photograph! :)))

You do not shoot objects. Your shoot emotional subjects. Great interpretation. L/F

Wow, love this gorgeous scene, Laurie! I enjoyed reading your description of the Salton Sea, also, as I was unfamiliar with it. What a beautiful place it must be, after seeing your exquisite images of it. L/F
Laurie Search replied:
Hi Mary!! Thank you so, so much!! I really appreciate it!! I'm glad you liked the description, too, but it seems so inaccurate to me, to tell you the truth! It is an amazing place, but one that has been mostly deserted...unfinished buildings and piers are on its shores...There is a definite eeriness to the place...It's worth seeing for sure...I love it there..but it's not really a place one goes for "recreation"....unless that recreation is taking pictures, lol!! :)
